Identità e valori nella separazione di religione e cultura in Europa. Annotazioni critiche sulla proposta teorica di Olivier Roy.

I processi di secolarizzazione stanno segnando una svolta nelle relazioni tra religione e società in Europa? L’articolo discute criticamente la tesi di Olivier Roy, secondo la quale tra religione e cultura è in atto un processo di separazione che configurerebbe una nuova fase della secolarizzazione in Europa occidentale. Il saggio esamina in chiave critica le categorie fondamentali della tesi di Roy – segnatamente, il processo di exculturazione della religione e le logiche della formattazione del religioso – evidenziandone, da un lato, alcune efficaci prestazioni interpretative per lo studio delle relazioni tra religione e cultura nel quadro dei rapporti tra religioni, spazio pubblico e sfera politica; mostrandone, dall’altro lato, i limiti e gli aspetti problematici per l’interpretazione del mutamento religioso nel contesto del declino della religione di chiesa e dello sviluppo di nuove forme di spiritualità e di ateismo religioso. Are the processes of secularisation marking a turning point in the relations between religion and society in Europe? The article critically discusses Olivier Roy's thesis that there is a process of separation between religion and culture that would constitute a new phase of secularisation in Western Europe. The essay critically examines the fundamental categories of Roy's thesis. namely, the process of exculturation of religion and the logic of religious formattin. In the essay are highlighted, on the one hand, some effective interpretative performances for the study of the relations between religion and culture within the framework of the relations between religions, public space and the political sphere; are displayed, on the other hand, the limits and problematic aspects for the interpretation of religious change in the context of the decline of church religion and the development of new forms of spirituality and religious atheism.
