Because of their peculiar optical and electronic characteristics, gold nanorods (GNRs) have been widely studied for applications in plasmon-enhanced spectroscopy, photonics, therapeutics, chemical sensing and bioimaging. The revisiting of GNRs synthesis protocols can be useful to optimize them for different applications, including: contrast agents for photoacoustic imaging (rough GNRs), scaffolds for tissue engineering and controlled drug release, materials development for SERS. Another application consists in antimicrobial activity and infections prevention through the use of a particular system constituted by Ag-coated GNRs included into biomimetic scaffolds.

Abstract
Because of their peculiar optical and electronic characteristics, gold nanorods (GNRs) have been widely studied for applications in plasmon-enhanced spectroscopy, photonics, therapeutics, chemical sensing and bioimaging. The revisiting of GNRs synthesis protocols can be useful to optimize them for different applications, including: contrast agents for photoacoustic imaging (rough GNRs), scaffolds for tissue engineering and controlled drug release, materials development for SERS. Another application consists in antimicrobial activity and infections prevention through the use of a particular system constituted by Ag-coated GNRs included into biomimetic scaffolds.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
