The morphological and structural characteristics of the scalp mean that tissue loss in this area with dimensions exceeding a diameter of 3 cm, require special flaps and techniques, involving extensive mobilization of the surrounding tissue. The authors present 5 clinical cases of lesions located in the scalp, successfully repaired by raising pinwheel-shaped sliding flaps, subsequently referred to as 'pinwheel flaps'. The flap raising stages and its indications are outlined, together with any advantages and disadvantages of the technique. Although use of these flaps to repair large defects of the scalp is not a recent methodological acquisition, it still represents a valid therapeutic option.
