A simple method, developed by us, is described to measure the inner scale of the atmospheric turbulence. The method is based on simultaneous measurements of the intensity variance, at a point of a spherical wave, and of the transverse displacement (wandering) of a thin beam, that has crossed the same turbulent path. The method is suitable for local measurements in conditions of strong turbulence. Experimental results are also presented.

Abstract

A simple method, developed by us, is described to measure the inner scale of the atmospheric turbulence. The method is based on simultaneous measurements of the intensity variance, at a point of a spherical wave, and of the transverse displacement (wandering) of a thin beam, that has crossed the same turbulent path. The method is suitable for local measurements in conditions of strong turbulence. Experimental results are also presented.
