Rete Rurale Nazionale identifies, promotes and spreads innovation in the agro-forest sector by targeted actions, and the presented volume is part of the actions included in the Italian national program 2014-2020. After having overcome the Chinese gall wasp emergency, chestnut orchard cultivation can be again a focus tool to protect and recover mountain and high hill areas where the species is spread. In this context, information to growers and private and public stakeholders plays a key role. An economically and ecologically sustainable business in this sectors pass through the rationalization of the cultural practices and through the transfer of the more innovative technical knowledge, which have to be balanced in relation to business size. The presented guidelines aim to be an updated document including the assessment of the Italian chestnut situation from an economic and silvicultural (grafting, pruning and site fertility management) point of view. Cultural systems related to different business size farm were proposed.
