Proyecto La Blanca | La Blanca Project

The Proyecto La Blanca (2004-2018) is an international cooperative project of inter-university and interdisciplinary nature, directed by Professors Gaspar Muñoz Cosme and Cristina Vidal Lorenzo. The objective of the project is to improve the conditions of the population living in the settlement bordering the ancient Mayan city of La Blanca (Petén – Guatemala). This done through alternative forms of social, economic and cultural development all closely linked to the safeguard of cultural heritage. The paper aims to illustrate an experiment conducted for the first time in an excavation operation in Petén: the daily surveying of the wells that were opened for the substructures to be studied (these belonged to an earlier construction phase, demolished in part by the Mayans to build new buildings above them).
