The subject of this text is the divanhane, the space for welcoming and reception in the Ottoman dwelling tradition. Investigating its scope and origins, questions are asked regarding the connections between the Byzantine dwelling tradition and the Ottoman which succeeded it. The re-visitation in a modern key of this space is the example that was chosen in order to show how modern architecture, in some cases, has a vernacular character.
