This paper presents a research study on the European Language Portfolio (ELP) which involved students attending a course in «Didactics of Modern Languages» at the University of Florence. The main objective of the course was to provide students with practical experience on the ELP with a view to merging ICT with language learning. The research method grounded in both qualitative and quantitative aspects which were assessed with a survey collecting the participants’ views on the aims, principles, and pedagogical function of the ELP. The research was intended to guide and support learners throughout their language learning process, also reporting the ELP's functions as to recording proficiency levels in foreign languages.
