Panehirychne zvelychennja Joasafa Krokovs'koho

In the article a panegyric poem dedicated to Joasaf Krokovskyi is analysed. Joasaf Krokovskyi was an important figure in Ukrainian cultural life and in Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the seventeenth-eighteenth centuries (he occupied the three most important posts: rector of the Kyiv Mohyla College, archimandrite of the Kyiv Caves Monastery and metropolitan). The poem was written in 1699, when Krokovskyi was archimandrite of the Kyiv Caves Monastery. The main goal of poetry at the time was considered the education of pious men and loyal subjects, that is why the panegyric was one of the leading genres in Mohylanian poetics. And the best means to achieve this goal was the representation of exemplary human actions that would constitute models worthy of being emulated. The work witnesses to the influence of humanistic and Renaissance philosophy on Ukrainian literature.
