Abstract

On the basis of the theories of some modern architects who had the opportunity of working in the easternMediterranean, places such as Mount Athos, Ioannina, Pristina, Ohrid, and even some villages of the Arbëreshëcommunity (Italo-Albanian) in the south of Italy, can be considered as incunabula of Byzantine dwellings. Inthese sites, thanks perhaps to their morphological features and geographical isolation, some elements ofthese type are still visible (although integrated into the subsequent cultures and dwelling styles) and in theiruniqueness permit a contemporary gaze on some typological features of the Byzantine house.
