In HCM patients, assessment of ventricular-arterial coupling yielded super-normal values correlated to an increase in Ees, reflecting enhanced LV inotropism. This tendency is especially evident in patients with obstructive HCM, who exhibited reduced coupling values and higher Ees. Mid-term we observed a strong direct correlation between Ea values and onset of AF during the follow-up. Further work is required to assess the benefits of pharmacological and surgical interventions on ventricular-arterial coupling in HCM, with potential impact on adverse remodelling and arrhythmic propensity.

Abstract

In HCM patients, assessment of ventricular-arterial coupling yielded super-normal values correlated to an increase in Ees, reflecting enhanced LV inotropism. This tendency is especially evident in patients with obstructive HCM, who exhibited reduced coupling values and higher Ees. Mid-term we observed a strong direct correlation between Ea values and onset of AF during the follow-up. Further work is required to assess the benefits of pharmacological and surgical interventions on ventricular-arterial coupling in HCM, with potential impact on adverse remodelling and arrhythmic propensity.
