At the dawn of 2020, the planet woke up with an unexpected shocking public health threat. A novel zoonotic coronavirus, later named severe acute respiratory syndrome 2 (SARS-CoV-2), genetically close to SARS-CoV responsible for the outbreak in 2003, emerged as causative agent of a multifaceted syndrome, known as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
