Abstract: In order to approach synonymy from a new perspective, I will apply the conceptual instruments of metaoperational grammar to explore the possible semantic differences between terms presented as synonyms in the current bibliography: the nouns "fin" and "final". The concepts of Phase I and Phase II, formulated by Henri Adamczewski, will help us to perceive some nuances of metalinguistic variation in their use.
