This volume reports the implementation status of the Law 167/2016 and of the Ministerial Decree 13th October 2016 on Extended Neonatal Screening (SNE) in Italy. The state of the art of the each regional SNE programs at 30th September, 2018 is described. Twenty Regions/Autonomous Provinces have implemented screening program (only in Calabria it is still in the activation phase). In almost all the Regions/Autonomous Provinces, the screening system covers the entire metabolic diseases panel included in the Ministerial Decree 13th October 2016. This volume reveals the commitment of the Regions in implementing the regulatory mandates and the importance of strengthening synergies among different stakeholders: Central institutions, Regions, clinical centres, patient/families associations and scientific societies.
