Roselle: la tomba di Sassi Grossi e la nascita di una aristocrazia

Tra il 2004 e il 2005, a breve distanza dalla città etrusca di Roselle, è emerso un importante complesso funerario composto da almeno due tombe a fossa databili entro la prima metà del VII sec. a.C. I resti dei corredi testimoniano l'appartenenza dei defunti ad una élite aristocratica, evidente grazie alla presenza di insegne di rango e oggetti di alto valore simbolico. La scoperta permette di formulare nuove ipotesi sulla formazione della città di Roselle e sul rapporto con la vicina Vetulonia, a quel tempo principale centro di riferimento del territorio maremmano. Between 2004 and 2005, a short distance from the Etruscan town of Roselle, an important funerary complex emerged consisting of at least two pit tombs datable within the first half of the 7th century BC. The remains of the grave goods testify to the fact that the deceased belonged to an aristocratic elite, which is evident from the presence of rank insignia and objects of high symbolic value. The discovery makes it possible to formulate new hypotheses on the formation of the town of Roselle and its relationship with nearby Vetulonia, at that time the main centre of reference in the Maremma area.
