Methods: Retrospective analysis of SBS patients from 2010 to 2017 investigating demographic data, bowel length, antibiotic treatment, and CHO intake. Data are expressed in mean±SD. Results: Eight out of 35 SBS patients developed DLA after autologous bowel reconstruction procedure. Neurological symptoms or behavioral changes were the symptoms reported. When developed DLA, all children were allowed to have free diet and were on gut decontamination regime. Recurrence rate of DLA was 43.81±27.12 months post-surgery. No significant correlation between underlying diseases, age at the time of surgery, bowel length post-surgery and development of DLA was observed. The treatment of DLA consisted in 24 h of starvation with only oral/IV fluid intake, slow re-introduction of CHO and change of antibiotics. Resolution of DLA was reported after 12.8±5.67 days.
