Experiences in Urban Accessibility Planning. The Cases of the Historical Centres of the Cities of Arezzo and Pisa

The article illustrates the methodologies used for the accessibility plan in urban areas, with reference to the work carried out in the historical centres of Arezzo, Pisa, Jesi, L’Aquila, Viareggio (LU) and Prato. The accessibility plan represents a necessary tool to verify the conditions of cities, starting from the needs of disabled people, analysing the degree of receptivity of spaces and services in the urban environment. The plan monitors the survey activities and maps out interventions, evaluating the types of action and the relative priorities. The article, through the case studies carried out for the cities of Pisa and Arezzo, describes the phases of the plan and the methods of accessibility analysis, along with planning of interventions aimed at solving the criticalities analysed.
