River ecosystems and dynamics are highly affected by the presence of in-channel wood which is usually called Large Woody Debris (LWD). The important roles of wood have been highlighted by several studies in the last decades. Despite the attention given to this topic the understanding of the spatio-temporal dynamics of LWD in river systems is still limited especially regarding the transport mechanisms. The past experimental studies were focused mainly on the entrainment of LWD and on the interactions between LWD and riverbed or structures. This work is focused on the physical factors controlling wood transport processes along a curved river.

Abstract

River ecosystems and dynamics are highly affected by the presence of in-channel wood which is usually called Large Woody Debris (LWD). The important roles of wood have been highlighted by several studies in the last decades. Despite the attention given to this topic the understanding of the spatio-temporal dynamics of LWD in river systems is still limited especially regarding the transport mechanisms. The past experimental studies were focused mainly on the entrainment of LWD and on the interactions between LWD and riverbed or structures. This work is focused on the physical factors controlling wood transport processes along a curved river.
