The Platonic Atlantis’myth, stemming from the Timaeus and the Critias, has had a powerful influence: the tale of this wonderful island located beyond the Pillars of Hercules, ending with the dramatic war against Athens and the subsequent sinking of Atlantis, is one of the oldest Western canons. The essay focuses on the close connection between logos and mythos, distinctive of Plato’s thought. In this perspective, the myth of Atlantis is a sophisticated investigation on the polis, its ancestral constitution, and the space where the political community took its ground.

Abstract
The Platonic Atlantis’myth, stemming from the Timaeus and the Critias, has had a powerful influence: the tale of this wonderful island located beyond the Pillars of Hercules, ending with the dramatic war against Athens and the subsequent sinking of Atlantis, is one of the oldest Western canons. The essay focuses on the close connection between logos and mythos, distinctive of Plato’s thought. In this perspective, the myth of Atlantis is a sophisticated investigation on the polis, its ancestral constitution, and the space where the political community took its ground.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
