The books is a collection of articles that discuss the Church of the Holy Cross on the Island of Aghtamar, exploring it from art-historical, architectural, religious, hagiographical and social perspectives. The articles present the Church of the Holy Cross and the Kingdom of Vaspurakan in a wider context taking into consideration the socio-political and religious landscape that included the Byzantine Empire and the Abbasid Caliphate, analysing their relationship with the Kingdom of Vaspurakan and its founder King Gatik Artsruni.
