We present three schemes of behaviour to classify the difficulties of students in the interpretation and formulation of mathematical negation. This report provides a detailed analysis of one of these schemes, particularly its link with common practice, showing that some of the greatest obstacles in learning the meaning of mathematical negation are the difference between negation in mathematics and in natural language, and the tendency to classify into particular categories, that take into account the differences more than the analogies.

Abstract
We present three schemes of behaviour to classify the difficulties of students in the interpretation and formulation of mathematical negation. This report provides a detailed analysis of one of these schemes, particularly its link with common practice, showing that some of the greatest obstacles in learning the meaning of mathematical negation are the difference between negation in mathematics and in natural language, and the tendency to classify into particular categories, that take into account the differences more than the analogies.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
