Abstract

Our work aims to develop an alternative technology to overcome the many drawbacks and limitations of stitches and adhesive patches in wound healing, by the implementation of laser welding with biocompatible scaffolds. We report on electrospun fibers containing polysaccharidic components and hosting a variety of dyes, such as indocyanine green or plasmonic nanoparticles, that support different functions in different regimes of optical irradiation, i.e. watertight adhesion with cw light, and the controlled release of antimicrobial principles with pulsed light. We believe that our work will inspire new synergies at the crossroads between tissue engineering and biomedical optics.
