The paper presents a historical-critical profile of the school of muratorian matrix that was formed in the Florence Faculty of Architecture between the 1970s and 1980s around the figure of Luigi Vagnetti. Particularly, it highlights the key role played by the disciplines of drawing, among which emerges strongly those of Architectural and Urban Survey, in the dialectic between reading and design.
