To better understand the idea of poverty in Maximus the Greek's works, the author analyzes the Controversy about the monastic way of life as we know it as one of his most important works. In particular, the intention is to determine the purpose of his Controversy by studying quotations from the Holy Scriptures and texts of the monastic tradition.
