In this work, Maximus the Greek set a goal to highlight the foundations of the vow of poverty, which he believed to be clearly opposed not only to the management of property, but also to the very idea of possession. His position had received a fundamental imprinting during his stay in Italy and subsequently matured within the tradition of Eastern monasticism, in a continuity that highlights the original synthesis he achieved in the new ecclesiastical and social situation in Russia.
