Il paese delle ombre riqualificazione del borgo di Gombitelli in museo a cielo aperto

Gombitelli è un antico borgo che domina la Valfreddana, una delle principali direttrici di collegamento fra la piana di Lucca e la costa tirrenica.Abitato da questa inedita comunità di fabbri-contadini, Gombitelli acquisì nel corso dei secoli grande fama in lucchesia grazie alla produzione di manufatti in ferro di grande pregio e qualità. Solo ottanta i residenti abitano il paese oggi. Per il resto chiusa la scuola elementare, chiuse le poche botteghe di vicinato, chiusa per la maggior parte della settimana persino la chiesa. Nonostante il forte senso di comunità e appartenenza identitaria dei pochi residenti, a prevalere è una perenne condizione di silenzio, di vuoto, di attesa. In questo scenario si inserisce il progetto di musealizzazione del paese, primo passo per la formazione del più esteso Ecomuseo delle Seimiglia. L’intero paese diviene così spazio espositivo di sé stesso e del suo paesaggio. Con case, ornate dagli antichi strumenti dei fabbri fissati sulle facciate a guisa di gnomoni. Case ora trasfigurate in meridiane senza quadranti così da misurare con le ombre portate degli antichi manufatti l’indicibile e contraddittoria natura del tempo, simultaneamente ciclica e immutabile. Gombitelli is an ancient village overlooking the Valfreddana, one of the main routes linking the plain of Lucca and the Tyrrhenian coast. Inhabited by this unusual community of blacksmiths-farmers, over the centuries Gombitelli acquired great fame in the Lucca area thanks to the production of iron artefacts of great value and quality. Only eighty residents live in the village today. For the rest, the primary school is closed, the few neighbourhood shops are closed and even the church is closed for most of the week. In spite of the strong sense of community and identity of the few residents, a perennial condition of silence, emptiness and waiting prevails. This is the background against which the project to turn the village into a museum is set, the first step towards the creation of the larger Seimiglia ecomuseum. The entire village thus becomes an exhibition space for itself and its landscape. With houses adorned with ancient blacksmiths' tools fixed to their façades like gnomon windows. Houses now transfigured into sundials without dials so as to measure the unspeakable and contradictory nature of time, simultaneously cyclical and immutable, with the shadows cast by the ancient artefacts.
