“A city suits my eyes”. Richiedenti asilo, accoglienza e spazio pubblico: pregi e difficoltà del video partecipativo

Il saggio propone un’analisi del percorso di realizzazione del video "A city suits my eyes", la sua impostazione teorica e metodologica, alcune riflessioni sulle criticità del video-partecipativo e infine alcuni dei risultati principali. Il video “A city suits my eyes” è il risultato di un progetto che aveva la finalità di comprendere che cosa significa per una persona che ha lasciato il proprio paese per motivi di forza maggiore vivere nei centri di accoglienza per richiedenti asilo o rifugiati del territorio fiorentino. Si è cercato di comprendere le pratiche che caratterizzano il rapporto tra questi soggetti e l’esterno: il contesto urbano, la città e i suoi spazi. A partire dall’idea che i centri di accoglienza possono essere intesi come istituzioni e spazi obbligati che contengono le vite dei loro ospiti, è stato realizzato un video-partecipativo con alcuni richiedenti asilo per capire come le persone beneficiano delle risorse dell’accoglienza, ma anche come riescono a uscire dai suoi vincoli, se così sono percepiti. Abbiamo provato a studiare l’accoglienza, andando ad esplorare come le persone che vivono in accoglienza ne vivono il fuori: come si muovono per la città, come usano e danno significato agli spazi pubblici, come li praticano, al di là delle funzioni che questi spazi hanno secondo la loro progettazione, come avvengono le interazioni con gli altri abitanti. The video "A city suits my eyes" is the result of a project with the aim of understanding what it means for a person who has left their country due to force majeure to live in reception centers for asylum seekers or refugees in the Florentine territory. We tried to understand the practices that characterize the relationship between these subjects and the outside world: the urban context, the city, and its spaces. Starting from the idea that reception centers can be intended as institutions and imposed spaces that contain the lives of their guests, a participatory video was made with some asylum seekers to understand how people benefit from the resources of reception centers, but also how they manage to get out of their constraints, if this is how they are perceived. We tried to study reception, exploring how people who live in reception live the outside of it: how they move around the city, how they use and which meaning they give to public spaces, how they practice them, beyond the functions that these spaces are designed for, how interactions with other inhabitants take place. The essay proposes an analysis of this process of video making, its theoretical and methodological approach, some reflections on the criticalities of the participatory video as a tool and lastly some of the main results.
