The 75th anniversary of the Bretton Woods Conference was celebrated last July by leading figures in Washington. They tried both to assess the main lessons stemming from the so-called Bretton Woods Order and to imagine the role of its institutions (International Monetary Fund and World Bank) over the next 75 years. Thus far, thousands of pages have been devoted to Bretton Woods in books about history and economics, and nowadays several scholars are engaged in an attempt to assess if and why a similar order could be restored. The aim of this note is to rescue just one lesson, among others, from that experience.

Abstract
The 75th anniversary of the Bretton Woods Conference was celebrated last July by leading figures in Washington. They tried both to assess the main lessons stemming from the so-called Bretton Woods Order and to imagine the role of its institutions (International Monetary Fund and World Bank) over the next 75 years. Thus far, thousands of pages have been devoted to Bretton Woods in books about history and economics, and nowadays several scholars are engaged in an attempt to assess if and why a similar order could be restored. The aim of this note is to rescue just one lesson, among others, from that experience.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
