The Profession of the “Scenographer” in Early 18th-Century Venice: A New Document

Questo contributo intende ricostruire le principali caratteristiche della scenografia barocca nei teatri pubblici musicali di Venezia nella prima metà del XVIII secolo a partire dal ritrovamento di un inedito documento: il contratto che il 24 gennaio 1724 lo scenografo Innocente Bellavite firmò con l’impresario Antonio Madonis per realizzare le scenografie delle opere del Teatro Sant’Angelo nella stagione 1724-1725. / This contribution intends to reconstruct the main characteristics of Baroque set design in the public musical theatres of Venice in the first half of the 18th century starting from the discovery of an unpublished document: the contract that the set designer Innocente Bellavite signed on 24 January 1724 with the impresario Antonio Madonis to create the sets for the operas of the Teatro Sant’Angelo in the 1724-1725 season.
