The villages nestled on the steep sides of mountains and hills continue to bear witness today to an architectural Berber culture typical of northern Africa. The great majority of the abandoned villages of North-Central Tunisia represent a cluster of dwellings that are rich in material and immaterial heritage. The local traditions linked to the everyday life of the inhabitants and their traditions are still almost unknown. The site, by means of an analysis of the architecture and the savoir-faire of the population, echoes the wealth of a heritage that is still partially intact. Based on the morphological study and the historical and graphic documentation of the village of Takrouna, this work aims to valorise an outstanding Mediterranean architectural patrimony in the hopes of cultivating the memory of those distant messages in stone and of the ingenuous use of the materials.
