Advanced medical imaging platforms have become an integral part of patient care. The study and development of new systems include a thorough usability assessment, in order to disseminate easy and intuitive tools that make physicians feel comfortable with the latest technologies. The aim of this study is to evaluate the usability of a new imaging platform conceived to be used for planning and surgery, during its development. Heuristic analysis has been performed, using well established Zhang’s heuristics. During the analysis, design characteristics that violate one or more heuristics was identified. For each violation, the evaluators identified what use problems will likely arise as a result of the violation, and the potential impact of each use problem. 38 heuristic violations have been detected, most violated heuristics are Match between System and Real World and Consistency and Standard.

Abstract
Advanced medical imaging platforms have become an integral part of patient care. The study and development of new systems include a thorough usability assessment, in order to disseminate easy and intuitive tools that make physicians feel comfortable with the latest technologies. The aim of this study is to evaluate the usability of a new imaging platform conceived to be used for planning and surgery, during its development. Heuristic analysis has been performed, using well established Zhang’s heuristics. During the analysis, design characteristics that violate one or more heuristics was identified.
