This paper presents a dual band patch antenna for operation in C band. The design of the antenna is based on the modal degeneration mechanism applied to a circular patch. The patch is gap-coupled with two pairs of parasitic reactive elements, which are the key of the dual band operation.To achieve adequate control of the two operation frequencies, the coupling is implemented as a distributed inter-digit capacitor. This feature permits the fine tuning of the coupling resulting in a higher control of the two resonances.

Abstract
