This work contributes to the increasing literature on the relationship between the media coverage of the economy and fertility dynamics. We address this relationship for Germany, a nation with a prosperous economy, by combining individual-level data from the German Socio-Economic Panel (G-SOEP) and Media Tenor data on economic news reported by some German weekly magazines of great circulation. Our analysis scrutinizes the association between economic news items and fertility behaviour. Findings reveal that an increase in negative news on the state of the economy discourages fertility, while positive news items only exert a negligible effect.

Abstract
This work contributes to the increasing literature on the relationship between the media coverage of the economy and fertility dynamics. We address this relationship for Germany, a nation with a prosperous economy, by combining individual-level data from the German Socio-Economic Panel (G-SOEP) and Media Tenor data on economic news reported by some German weekly magazines of great circulation. Our analysis scrutinizes the association between economic news items and fertility behaviour. Findings reveal that an increase in negative news on the state of the economy discourages fertility, while positive news items only exert a negligible effect.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
