The possible re-design of a district heating network for heat distribution cascaded to an ORC power palnt is proposed. Low-temperature CO2 is used as the heat transfer medium, with local upgrade by means of heat pumps. The proposed solution demonstrates that it is possible to satisfy the same district heating load profile (the time history was available) with a relevant boost in power production.

Abstract

The possible re-design of a district heating network for heat distribution cascaded to an ORC power palnt is proposed. Low-temperature CO2 is used as the heat transfer medium, with local upgrade by means of heat pumps. The proposed solution demonstrates that it is possible to satisfy the same district heating load profile (the time history was available) with a relevant boost in power production.
