Usability of an indoor navigation mobile application for hospital premises: requirements, gap analysis and improvements

The scope of this paper is to assess the usability of a custom mobile app for indoor navigation in hospital premises. The mobile indoor navigation application is available as testing release for Android OS. Usability evaluation methods, metrics and measurement techniques associated with ergonomics in software engineering are firstly reviewed (ISO 26800, ISO 9241-11 and ISO 25066). Then the study applies a heuristic review to the app's interface to highlight the main criticalities, to be addressed with updates and fixes. Usability tests have also been designed to evaluate the user experience of the target population in relation to available tasks.
