An emerging disease challenges the use of cherry laurel (Prunus laurocerasus L.) as a hedge plant in urban and periurban landscapes

Questo scritto riassume brevemente il contenuto di una serie di ricerche svolte tra il 2018 e il 2022 e presentate in un poster al XXVII Congresso della Società Italiana di Patologia vegetale (SIPaV) sull'identificazione delle cause e la valutazione dei danni provocati da una grave malattia emergente del lauroceraso (Prunus laurocerasus L.), che si è manifestata negli ultimi anni nel verde urbano dell'area metropolitana di Firenze-Prato-Pistoia. L'incidenza, la diffusione territoriale e la gravità della malattia sono tali da mettere a rischio l'uso della specie come pianta da siepe. / This paper briefly summarises the content of a series of researches carried out between 2018 and 2022 and presented in a poster at the XXVII Congress of the Italian Society of Plant Pathology (SIPaV) on the identification of the causes and assessment of the damage caused by a serious emerging disease of laurel (Prunus laurocerasus L.), which has been occurring in recent years in urban greenery in the Florence-Prato-Pistoia metropolitan area. The incidence, territorial spread and severity of the disease are such that the use of the species as a hedge plant is at risk.
