Abstract

The survey investigation work on the landscape and the traditional Carelian architecture, included in the European Research Project entitled “Wooden Architecture: traditional Karelian Timber Architecture and Landscape”, began in 2012 and the aim of the project was to understand how the Karelian culture and history have determined, during the years, unique landscapes and urban sceneries of their kind. The transformation context, in which both the behavioral customs of the local populations and the traditional architectural ones have been involved, which inevitably have been mixed with the Soviet models and administrative structures, have been analyzed in this scientific field in order not to compromise the conservation and enhancement of the historical, architectural and landscape heritage of this country.
