The relation between philology and translation is certainly not evident or even spontaneous, although their most significant critics often refer to the same concepts such as experience, hermeneutical value and gradual approximation to sense. Starting from the analysis of La danse des Morts (1838) by Gustave Flaubert, this article aims to formulate an exchange between philology and translation, in order to make complementary their interpretative perspectives. After a study of its inner literary features, Flaubert’s juvenile text is examined through a diplomatic transcription, a “diplomatic translation” and finally through a “critic translation”. These three hermeneutical proposals take shape from different premises, while their solutions offer interrelating answers to this modern danse macabre, whose movements articulate every critical effort and induce to conceive the text as a metamorphic organism.

Abstract
The relation between philology and translation is certainly not evident or even spontaneous, although their most significant critics often refer to the same concepts such as experience, hermeneutical value and gradual approximation to sense. Starting from the analysis of La danse des Morts (1838) by Gustave Flaubert, this article aims to formulate an exchange between philology and translation, in order to make complementary their interpretative perspectives. After a study of its inner literary features, Flaubert’s juvenile text is examined through a diplomatic transcription, a “diplomatic translation” and finally through a “critic translation”. These three hermeneutical proposals take shape from different premises, while their solutions offer interrelating answers to this modern danse macabre, whose movements articulate every critical effort and induce to conceive the text as a metamorphic organism.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
