This paper reports a secondary analysis of a cross-sectional study on the association between infant feeding practices and maternal psychological well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy. The paper found that women who were exclusively breastfeeding had lower levels of anxiety, stress, somatization and PTSD symptoms than women who were using formula. The paper suggests that breastfeeding may have a protective effect on maternal mental health during a public health emergency.
