The Fintech Revolution: opportunities and challenges for financial intermediaries and regulators

digital technologies are impacting on financial sector, giving rise to the phenomenon defined by scholars as Fintech. The emergence and the spread of this new phenomenon needs further study by academics, particularly for what concerns the challenges and opportunities that regulators and financial intermediaries are called to face in the coming years. Our paper reviewed the literature on fintech and investigated empirical cases which help us to identify challenges for regulators and financial intermediaries. However, it is an apparent conflict that holds in considering only one dimension of the regulatory aspect, that of rules as a “defensive” tool to limit risks and help the community to protect itself from abuse and criminal phenomena
