A single-edge notched beam under bending is considered, and the behaviour of the beam material is assumed to be linear elastic. A finite element analysis is carried out by employing non-conforming quadrilateral elements , to accurately determine the stress and strain field for different values of notch depth a , curvature radius r and notch angle w . The influence of each of such parameters on the stress concentration is examined .
