A patch antenna for operation with Global Positioning System (GPS) and Iridium applications is presented. The antenna design is based on the modal degeneration principle of disc-based patch, combined with the gap-coupling mechanism to increase the bandwidth of operation. The best design is arranged in a 14×14 cm2 PCB. The performance expressed in term of maximum gain, cross polarization ratio and return loss are respectively 4.9 dB, 15 dB and 20 dB for GPS operations and 2.35 dB, 15.9 dB and 11 dB for Iridium operations.

Abstract
A patch antenna for operation with Global Positioning System (GPS) and Iridium applications is presented. The antenna design is based on the modal degeneration principle of disc-based patch, combined with the gap-coupling mechanism to increase the bandwidth of operation. The best design is arranged in a 14×14 cm2 PCB. The performance expressed in term of maximum gain, cross polarization ratio and return loss are respectively 4.9 dB, 15 dB and 20 dB for GPS operations and 2.35 dB, 15.9 dB and 11 dB for Iridium operations.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
