Bemerkungen zur Entstehung und Entwicklung von Felix Jacobys Projekt zur fragmentarischen antiken Geographie aus unveröffentlichtem Material des Nachlasses von Friedrich Gisinger.

La necessità di Jacoby di fornire una nuova raccolta dei frammenti degli storici e dei geografi greci non nascondeva la difficoltà di un'opera così vasta e possiamo supporre che le difficoltà di questo lavoro fossero apparse precocemente allo studioso, che aveva consegnato, già all'inizio degli anni Venti, la quinta sezione a Friedrich Gisinger. Il rapporto scientifico tra Jacoby e Gisinger può essere ricostruito sulla base dell'Archivio di Gisinger, conservato presso la Biblioteca di Stato Bavarese a Monaco. I documenti dimostrano che c'è stata una collaborazione gentile e intensa tra i due studiosi, durata quasi trent'anni. La selezione di autori antichi da parte di Gisinger fu ripetutamente criticata da Jacoby, che non era del parere di includere anche riferimenti geografici, ad esempio alla poesia epica e alla tragedia. Nella mia indagine mio studio mi concentro su questa discussione e sul suo significato per lo studio della geografia storica del mondo antico. Jacoby’s need to provide a new collection of the fragments of both the historians and of the Greek geographers did not conceal the difficulty of such a huge work and we can assume that the difficulties of this work had appeared early to Jacoby, who had given already in the early twenties, the fifth section to Friedrich Gisinger. The scholarly relationship between Jacoby and Gisinger can be reconstructed on the basis of Gisinger’ s Archive, which is preserved in the Bavarian State Library in Munich. The documents show that there was a kind and intensive collaboration between the two scholars that lasted almost thirty years. Gisinger’ s selection of ancient authors was repeatedly criticized by Jacoby, who was not of the opinion to include also geographical references, f. e. to epic poetry and tragedy. In my study I am focusing on this discussion and its significance for the study of the historical geography of the ancient world.
