Abstract
Of all the stages in the complex pre-industrial production process known as the 'wool cycle', dyeing was undoubtedly a crucial stage from a technical and therefore economic point of view. Alum was one of the most widely used mordants and therefore a major element in the international trade since the Middle Ages. In this short contribution the activity of the dyeing workshop of Niccolò Del Rosso and Francesco Datini active in Prato at the end of the 14th century will be analysed, in particular that branch of activity characterised by the use of dyeing substances such as madder by the need to mordant the products to be processed: the Arte Maggiore.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
