Uomo e ambiente del Vicino Oriente durante il Paleolitico: prospezioni archeologiche nella Giordania centro-meridionale

The archaeological mission, which started in 2020, intends to promote a multidisciplinary research on the human frequentation of Central-Southern Jordan during the Palaeolithic. The project aims to investigate over a long period the historical-cultural dynamics that characterized the Palaeolithic of the region in relation to the climatic and environmental transformations that took place during the Pleistocene. Surveys conducted in the territory of Ma'an in areas never previously investigated led to the identification of numerous sites with a high archaeological potential; in some of these sites concentrations of stone tools artifacts have been found which testify a frequentation of the area by hunter-gatherers groups during the Lower and Middle Palaeolithic (between 1 million and 45 thousand years ago).
