Gregotti Associati, o dello studio professionale come struttura teorica

Vittorio Gregotti (1927–2020) was a leading figure on the Italian and European architectural scene in the second half of the 20th century. The essay explores the professional organisations he set up during his lifetime, seen as part of a broader cultural action: embracing the legacy of the so-called “modern project”, seeking to evolve it in the ever-changing conditions of consumerist and capitalist society. In particular, the peculiar organisation, evolution and working methodology of the firm Gregotti Associati (1974–2017) is studied as a cultural instrument within the multiple roles he assumed in those decades, as full professor at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia and director of the magazines Casabella and Rassegna. This essay is based on documents kept in Gregotti’s archive at Castello Sforzesco in Milan and conversations with some of his closest collaborators.
