This brief article explores the nomenclature of three Constantinopolitan churches: Hagia Sophia (Holy Wisdom), Hagia Eirene (Holy Peace), and Hagia Dynamis (Holy Power). These ap- pellations, embodying divine epithets linked to Christ and conveying philosophical abstrac- tions, offer a captivating convergence of ancient pagan culture and the nascent Christian faith. The analysis underscores the inherent connection between the city’s foundation and its pa- gan heritage, challenging the notion that Constantinople could have emerged devoid of such influences.

Abstract
This brief article explores the nomenclature of three Constantinopolitan churches: Hagia Sophia (Holy Wisdom), Hagia Eirene (Holy Peace), and Hagia Dynamis (Holy Power). These ap- pellations, embodying divine epithets linked to Christ and conveying philosophical abstrac- tions, offer a captivating convergence of ancient pagan culture and the nascent Christian faith. The analysis underscores the inherent connection between the city’s foundation and its pa- gan heritage, challenging the notion that Constantinople could have emerged devoid of such influences.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
