The Marab WHT is a macro‐catchment measure consisting of earth dams and stone spillways along the contours of a lowland depression or floodplain, aiming to collect the runoff from the upstream part of the watershed. This study aims to fill the knowledge gap on the WHT’s performance for different soils and climatic conditions using the AquaCrop model. The simulation results show the positive effect of the Marab WHT in most of the soil tested and with worsening climatic conditions. The greatest impact on crop development is observed in removing the first flood events of the Marab WHT with increasing temperature. The yield is always lost if the first and the last flood events are removed
