The fortress of the Bufalini family was built in San Giustino, a significant geo-political border area between Umbria, Tuscany and Marche, which has remained on the margins of the historical debate. The ‘castle’ is the result of a long process of historical sedimentation, punctuated by datable chronological junctions found in new research on the documentary sources of the ‘tifernate’ area, relating to the results of investigations regarding dimensions, construction and the materials of the complex, further analyzed through a survey campaign using laser scanner and terrestrial photogrammetry, with the data duly processed to highlight the uniqueness of the architectural monument. An examination of the interface between different sources throws new light on the historical events traced by the construction sites, which sprung up over time, defining and transforming the complex. It has been possible to identify the original medieval nucleus, the late fifteenth century features, and the sixteenth-century innovations that most strongly characterize the residential character of the complex. The multidisciplinary approach has generated new interpretative guidelines that make the fortress decisively innovative in the context of fortified architecture between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.

Abstract
The multidisciplinary approach has generated new interpretative guidelines that make the fortress decisively innovative in the context of fortified architecture between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
