Abstract
The custom in the maintenance management of monumental complexes has led the Fabbricerie, frequently equipped with technical offices and highly qualified craftsmen in the working of traditional materials, to elaborate their own strategies and actions rooted in long-term practices. In recent decades this approach has been the subject of reflections and changes aimed at mitigating the tendency to pursue material replacements and extraordinary interventions. Especially in recent years, there has been a shift towards a preventive action methodology aimed at limiting the restoration works. The Opera del Duomo of Siena, in the last twenty years, has started a program of periodic checks to be carried out. During this period the control activities appear initially more aligned with a maintenance-oriented approach, with a particular attention focused on plant components and to a lesser extent to architecture. There is also a tendency to involve technical staff with generalist skills profiles. Starting from 2020, the methodologies have significantly approached (aligned with) the 'coherent, coordinated and planned' activity referred to in art. 29 of the “Codice dei Beni Culturali”, starting to build a preventive and planned conservation. This paper aims to retrace the changes in strategy implemented in the periodid inspections planned in the cathedral of Siena, taking into account the new challenges that have arisen, such as the risk of falling of parts of buildings.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
